Kraken Sign D Josh Mahura to One year contract worth $775k

We’re really loading up on former Panthers, huh.

The Kraken announced that they’ve made a signing of Defenseman Josh Mahura, to a 1 year contract worth $775,000 dollars.

With this signing, the Kraken now have $10,733,809 in free Cap Space, according to PuckPedia.

Josh Mahura has largely been known for his time with the Anaheim Ducks and Florida Panthers, largely as a depth option with both squads. He played his first 82 game season with the Cats back in 2022-23, where he finished with 16 points…and then went right back down to 30 games this year, where he only had 9 assists. That said, he was liked in Florida, and of course he still gets to keep the ring from this year, so there’s further championship experience to impart upon the various Kraken youths.

Given his league minimum contract, I expect that the goals of Mahura are as a backup defender in case the need arises for an extra player, and to motivate the younger defenders (Namely Ryker Evans) to stay in the lineup full-time. It’s how this business works sometimes; if you can’t earn your keep, someone else will try to. At least, that’s the thinking anyway.

Let’s all welcome Josh to The Deep!
