AHL Western Conference Finals Game 2 RECAP: Lind, Poturalski has 2-point night as the Firebirds’ playoff streak reaches 8!

Game Notes

• The Firebirds did not take Game 1 lying down, absolutely brutalizing the Admirals’ defense with the kind of calm, painful precision you see in a John Wick movie. Poturalski managed to finagle his way through everybody, Evans got a shot through on a screen where every Admiral Skater participated, and to finish things off scoring-wise…the Firebird Special of “Forcing the Opponent’s Goalie to sell his entire life out to make a blocker stop and fail miserably” for Kole Lind. I would imagine that the Ads’ coaching staff are going to be drilling these guys like the Marines to try and get some form back into them, because otherwise…they look solved, and I dunno how you fix that in two days.
• Two point nights for Kole Lind and Andrew Poturalski, who were the 2nd and 3rd stars. Well deserved; especially given how quickly Poturalski got the ball rolling, but I do think that of the goals, Lind probably had the most visually spectacular. Poturalski’s just happened so fast I couldn’t believe it worked.
• I have to assume the Admirals got to where they were because of some home cooking from the referees, because these guys are getting caught doing all sorts of crazy s#!t. What the hell are you having Reid Schaefer throwing cross checks for? Who’s throwing elbows in the playo-you know what bad question. Point is, if they keep this up, Milwaukee’s going to make this a much faster series than you might believe. And they’re already down 2-0.
• Another solid night at the office for Driedger, finishing the night with a .968 SV% on 31 stops, and several of them tough, in-tight saves and the First Star of the game. Helluva night for him!
• Eight in a row. What a team this is. Let’s see if we can make it nine on Tuesday.

The Firebirds have a flight to catch to Milwaukee, and will meet the Admirals on their home ice on Tuesday evening at 4pm PT. Expect a war.
